This is Grace and this is the story of a student returning to in person learning on there first day of high school. I wanted to convey how overwhelming the circumstances and stress of the situation might be. In allowing the public to determine the background I deliberately set myself up to feel the loss of control and vulnerability that I sought to convey with the painting. Those who participate in generating the background felt the reluctance and apprehension that so many of us feel today in approaching strangers and engaging with them.
